Special Issue Introduction

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes are devastating and costly diseases. It is predicted that these diseases could exceed billions of people worldwide within the next decades. Although all kinds of drugs have been developed or being developed to prevent and treat CVD and diabetes, neither is highly effective. Precision medicine is the utilization of genetic information to discover individual disease mechanism, and carry out personalized treatments and interventions with specific targeting. With the completion of human genome project and the rapid development of next generation sequencing techniques, rare and common genetic variation as determinants of cardiovascular disease and diabetes susceptibility, diagnostics, and therapeutic response has grown exponentially. The present special issue aims to provide messages about the most recent progress of precision medicine in CVD and diabetes regarding to the precision molecular diagnostics, wearable devices, precision treatment and prognosis.
