Mission

Motivate the next generation of trainees and new junior faculty members to engage in cutting-edge cardiovascular/vascular investigations to address current knowledge gaps.

Introduction

The Education Section of Vessel Plus will encourage trainees and new junior investigators to publish their latest cardiovascular/vascular research findings. Based on these publications, the elite sub-group of these cutting-edge research endeavors will be recognized via an annual Vessel Plus awards program.

Aims

  • Inspiring excitement and enthusiasm among trainees to pursue a future career focused on cardiovascular/vascular investigations.
  • Boosting trainees and new junior investigators’ career advancement by recognizing research excellence with basic science, translational science, clinical science and population health awards.
  • Raising the scholarly visibility of these elite trainees and new junior faculty members by broadly publicizing their Vessel Plus Education Section publications.
  • Training the next generation of research scientists to transform the care of future cardiovascular/vascular patients.

Trainees and New Junior Faculty Members


Eligibility criteria

For special recognition and awards, eligible trainees will include undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral interns, medical students, residents, and/or fellows. Additionally, new junior faculty members are individuals who enter an academic faculty position (e.g., instructor, senior instructor, or assistant professor) less than 5 years after completing their last training program. This 5-year period will be calculated based on the submission date of their Vessel Plus manuscripts.

    • Robust design (Hypothesis & Methods) (20 points)

    • Clinical significance / Potential impact (20 points)
    • Completeness /Quality of overall project (20 points)

Based on the Vessel Plus Education Committee's scores, the top 10 finalists will be invited to submit a supplementary PowerPoint (PPT) presentation (i.e., up to 10 slides) using audio over IP (AoIP) techniques to provide voice-based PPT slide-by-slide narration. Following the final awardee(s) selection, the narrative PPT files along with their photographs will be published on the website of Vessel Plus journal.

Awards

  • An official E-certificate signed by all Education Committee members for both the trainee and their faculty mentor;
  • For all award manuscripts, Vessel Plus publication-related costs would be waived.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, the annual Vessel Plus "Outstanding Vessel Plus Trainee Publication Award" will be announced no later than May 31st of each year.
